C. Bechstein Wetbewerb

The competition's profile


1. Carl Bechstein was closely identified with many great pianists and composers of his time. Following this tradition and in view of Essen and the surrounding Ruhr area being chosen as the cultural capital of Europe 2010 we very much hope to present in the 3d round one or more works of composers currently living in this area.

2. We are commemorating

  • the 200th anniversary of the death of Joseph Haydn (1809)
  • the 200th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809),
  • the 200th anniversary of the birth of Robert Schumann
  • the 200th anniversary of the birth of and Frederic Chopin (1810)
  • the 200th anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt (1811)

3. Please note that one rehearsal in the chamber music or song accompaniment category of the 3d round will be attended and judged by the Jury. More detailed information will follow soon.
